1 in 5 children and young adults aged 8 – 25 years have a probable mental health disorder. This is an increase of 50% in the last 6 years alone. 70% of these children and young adults do not receive appropriate intervention at a sufficiently young age to prevent these issues from being carried into adulthood. Places like the Isle of Man are no exception, since 2020, the number of children in need of mental health treatment on the Isle of Man has risen by 83%
Signs that your child might be suffering from mental health issues:
- Mood swings
- Appetite changes
- Change in sleep patterns
- Angry outbursts
- Crying easily
- Persistent sadness
- Decreased interest in activity
- Drop in school grades
- Excessive worry
- Becoming withdrawn
- Frequent headaches & stomach aches
What are some of the most common issues children face?
Anxiety – eating more or less than usual, quickly getting angry or irritable, being out of control during outbursts, constantly worrying or having negative thoughts, feeling tense and fidgety, or using the toilet often.
Depression – sadness or low mood that doesn’t go away, being irritable or grumpy all of the time, no longer interested in the things they used to enjoy, feeling tired & exhausted all of the time.
Low Self-Esteem – withdrawing & avoiding social situations or activities, seeming low in their mood, showing less interest in things, reluctant to try new things, seeming very anxious when they make a mistake, or not being able to move on from it.
Bullying – unexplained physical injuries such as bruising, school refusal, skipping school, sudden ‘mysterious’ illnesses each morning, drop in school grades, trouble sleeping, nervousness, losing items & lunch money or asking for / needing more money than usual.
Self-Harm – behaviors and emotions that change quickly and are impulsive, intense and unexpected, difficulties in relationships with others, talk of helplessness, hopelessness or worthlessness, wearing long sleeves even in hot weather, frequent reports of accidental injury. Self-harm is my area of specialty, learn more about self-harm.
What is NLP?
NLP – Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a psychological approach that explores the connection between our thoughts (neuro), language (linguistic), and behaviors (programming). By changing how we think and speak, we can influence our emotions and actions, leading to personal improvement.
In simple terms, NLP is about understanding how our mind works and using that knowledge to improve our communication, overcome challenges, and achieve our goals. It involves techniques that can help people change negative habits, enhance their relationships, and boost their confidence.
I offer 1-2-1 NLP child therapy in the Isle of Man as well as on-line NLP child therapy anywhere in the world.

How Can NLP Therapy Help?
Through the use of NLP techniques, I offer practical, fast acting, solutions-based outcomes that enable children to rapidly take control of their emotions, empowering them to overcome unhelpful and negative thoughts that often result in self-limiting beliefs.
Children are particularly responsive to NLP therapy as they are not as conditioned as adults and therefore, they are more open to change, growth and ultimately improving themselves.
Unlike talk therapy, which is often lengthy when undertaken in isolation, NLP focuses on practical solutions to real life problems. NLP is quick and effective, therapeutic sessions typically last between 2 – 8 sessions.
My approach centers around inspiring and motivating children through fun and logical learning that teaches lasting resilience that your child will carry with them into adulthood.
Through the use of NLP, I can make a real difference for your child and your family. Get in touch with me for a face-to-face chat in the Isle of Man or for an on-line chat about how I can specifically help you.
